Kenya Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA)

Overview

The Kenya Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) provides a digital mechanism for short-term travel to Kenya, including tourism, business, family visits, and conferences. It is a mandatory pre-entry clearance for eligible nationals and replaces traditional visa procedures for most short-term visits.

Note: The eTA does not allow holders to work, study, or reside long-term. Employment, study, or permanent residence requires a separate Work Permit, Student Pass, or Permanent Residence.

Who Can Apply

Travelers visiting Kenya for short-term purposes (up to 90 days per visit)

Participants in business meetings, conferences, tourism, or family visits

Nationals from countries eligible under Kenya’s eTA program

Requirements

  • 1. Valid Passport – Must be valid for at least six months beyond entry, with one blank page.
  • 2. Digital Passport-Style Photo – Front-facing, neutral expression, recent, high-resolution.
  • 3. Travel Itinerary – Dates of travel, accommodation, or host information if visiting family/friends.
  • 4. Proof of Return or Onward Travel – Return or onward ticket to demonstrate intent to leave Kenya.
  • 5. Proof of Funds – Evidence of financial capacity to cover your stay.
  • 6. Compliance – No prior violations of Kenyan immigration laws.

Validity & Stay Conditions

  • Valid for 90 days from issuance; entry must occur within this period.
  • Stay up to 90 consecutive days; extensions may be granted discretionarily.
  • Single-entry authorization – Leaving Kenya invalidates the eTA; a new application is required for re-entry.
  • Port of Entry Verification – Immigration officers may verify documents and travel purpose; admission is at their discretion.

  • Multiple entries in 5 years; each visit up to 90 days
  • Ideal for investors, researchers, long-term family visits, or semi-residential arrangements.
