Permanent Residency Application Information Pack

There are four categories of applications that can be made under Permanent Residency. These are provided under Section 37 of the Kenya Citizenship and Immigration Act, 2011. Choose applicable category of the applications below, to find out its requirements and apply.

Category A

Application for Permanent Residency by Ex-Citizens of Kenya (Category A)

This applies to Kenya citizens by birth who have since renounced or lost citizenship status and are denied the opportunity by their countries of domicile to hold dual citizenship. Children and spouses of these applicants can also apply.

What are the requirements

Category B

Application for Permanent Residency by Holders of work permits (Category B)

This applies to persons who have held Kenya work permits for at least seven (7) years and have been continuously resident in the country for three years immediately preceding the permanent residence application. It also includes their spouses and children.

What are the requirements

Applicants must provide proof of lawful residence on work permits for a minimum of 7 years and with continuous 3 years residency in Kenya preceding the application for permanent residency. Applicants must demonstrate a strong position to make tangible contribution to socio-economic development of the country hence priority will be given to investors and highly qualified professionals. In, this framework, applicants may be required to appear in person for interview to confirm or verify these facts. Applicants must fulfil the following documentation requirements:

Category C

Application for Permanent Residency by Children of Kenya Citizens (Category C)

This applies to children of Kenya Citizens born outside the country and have acquired foreign citizenship of their country of residence/domicile.

Category D

Application for Permanent Residency by Spouses of Kenya Citizens (Category D)

This applies to spouses of Kenya citizens married for at least three years. Applicants must give ample proof of marriage and family life besides documentation furnished. In this framework, applicants may be required to appear in person for interview to confirm or verify these facts.
